United does not fly SFO to Delhi nonstop, so when Air India’s days do not work, the backup is a one-stop through Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi, adding roughly three to four hours.
Bangalore changed character this year. Air India ran an SFO Bangalore nonstop three times a week and ended it in February 2026, moving West Coast capacity to Delhi. Amritsar is where the right answer depends on who is flying. A Delhi routing means an hour long domestic hop, and also a terminal change and a bag recheck in a busy airport. Doha on Qatar Airways is the only true Gulf single stop, since Qatar is the one Gulf carrier serving Amritsar, and that transfer is more predictable. For an elderly parent travelling alone, one clean Gulf transfer beats a domestic Indian connection at rush hour.

Air India flies San Francisco to Delhi on the 777, close to sixteen or seventeen hours depending on direction and winds. Comparison sites present these as single stop options and they are not.
