This is the Canada to India route nobody needs help finding, which is why the calls we take on it are almost never about the flight. They are about the fare rules.
What we check first is how old the schedule is. Air India’s daily nonstop with the new 787-9s and no Vienna stop came back on 1 August 2026, after a bruising June and July when frequency was cut over fuel costs. Air India’s own newsroom puts the westbound block at up to sixteen hours and the eastbound at close to seventeen. Those are the airline’s figures on a route it had just rebuilt days earlier, so we treat published departure times as provisional and pull the live schedule in the week you book. Premium Economy is new here as well. On a rebuilt route, the new cabin is where timings and inventory move first.
If you are connecting onward inside India, we build the Delhi layover past the legal minimum on purpose. Consolidator fares are cheaper because they are stricter: higher change fees, cancellation penalties that stack, no guaranteed mileage. On a route carrying this much daily capacity, usually worth it. If your dates hang on a visa appointment, say so, and we will price a flexible published fare beside ours.
Nonstop or one stop
Toronto to Delhi is the one Canada to India route where the nonstop is usually the obvious answer. Air India and Air Canada have both flown it daily. Air India rebuilt its side on 1 August 2026: newer 787-9s, Premium Economy on the route for the first time, and no more Vienna fuel stop sitting in the westbound leg.
That schedule is weeks old, not years old. Air India had cut frequency here through June and July over fuel costs before restoring it. We pull the live schedule before we quote.
If the nonstop is not flying on your dates, the route does not disappear, it becomes a one-stop. Doha on Qatar Airways, Dubai on Emirates, Abu Dhabi on Etihad. Those one-stops are sometimes cheaper than the nonstop even when the nonstop is flying, which is the part people do not expect. Nonstop buys you four to six hours and one less security queue. That is the trade, and we ask which side of it you want before we price anything.
Baggage
Air India. One checked bag at 23kg on Economy Value. Two at 23kg on Classic and Flex. Cabin is 7kg plus a personal item, and the 7kg is weighed properly at Indian airports.
Air Canada. The fare decides it, and that is what catches people out. Basic includes no checked bag, so you buy the first one at the counter. Standard and Flex include one. Latitude and Comfort include two.
Fees move, so we confirm the figure with the airline for your fare before you pay. If you are carrying gifts and you are near the line, say so at the enquiry. Buying up to a two-bag fare beats paying at Pearson.
When to book
Two peaks. Diwali, and mid-December to early January while the Ontario school boards are out. Both fill early and neither softens once it has filled. Three to five months ahead for Diwali. For Christmas and New Year, start looking in the summer.
January and February drop off once the holiday traffic clears. July to September, the monsoon months at the Delhi end, are quieter still. Give us a range you can travel in rather than a single date.
What flying Toronto to Delhi actually looks like
Pearson to Indira Gandhi International is one long hop, roughly fourteen and a half to sixteen hours westbound and longer coming home. When both carriers are operating normally, Air India and Air Canada each fly it daily. That is unusual on this corridor and it changes the nature of the decision: you are choosing a product rather than accepting whatever exists.
Air India’s version changed materially on 1 August 2026. Daily service restored after the June and July cuts, newer 787-9 aircraft, Premium Economy on the route for the first time, and the Vienna technical fuel stop dropped from the westbound leg. Air Canada flies its own 787 alongside it.
Why this page will not promise you a nonstop
Canada and US routes to India have been cut, restored and re-timed repeatedly through 2026. A route page that hardcodes a frequency claim ages badly, and the person it ages badly for is the passenger reading it nine months later.
So we check what is flying on your dates and tell you. If the nonstop is there and prices well, we book it. If it is not, Qatar Airways, Emirates and Etihad sell one-stops through Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi that land you in Delhi in about eighteen to twenty hours door to door. Sometimes those price under the nonstop anyway.

Yes, on the right fare. Air India's Classic and Flex fares include two bags at 23kg each, Economy Value includes one. Air Canada includes none on Basic, one on Standard and Flex, two on Latitude and Comfort. The fare that includes the second bag usually costs less than the second bag does at Pearson.
What if I need to change my dates later?
Say so before we book. Consolidator fares are cheaper than published fares and flexibility is what pays for that: change fees are higher, cancellation penalties stack. Fine for a fixed holiday. Poor for travel that hangs on a visa or a medical appointment. We will price both and tell you what the flexible version actually costs.
Can you arrange a wheelchair for my mother at both ends?
