Air Canada flies Montreal to Delhi nonstop on the 787-9, roughly late October through late April, at a base frequency of about three flights a week and increasing toward daily around the December and early January peak. Then it stops for the summer. Air Canada also confirmed in late 2025 that it was cancelling the planned summer 2026 extension of this route and shifting that capacity through its Toronto hub instead. At the time of writing we are in the off season, with the nonstop scheduled to resume in late October.
None of that makes Montreal a dead market. It makes it a market with two products depending on the month, and the mistake we see is customers searching a summer date, finding nothing, and assuming there is no way to fly. In the off season we book a one-stop: Toronto, where both Air India and Air Canada fly nonstop to Delhi, or a European gateway Montreal already serves nonstop. Toronto routings add three to six hours for a total around eighteen to twenty one; a European connection lands in a similar range.
So the first thing we tell a Montreal customer is which product they are buying. Dates between late October and late April: ask about the nonstop and book it early, because a three times weekly service around the holidays fills up before a daily one does. Dates outside that window: do not spend two weeks looking for a nonstop that is not scheduled.
Half the year it is a nonstop
Air Canada flies Montreal to Delhi nonstop on the 787-9, and it is seasonal rather than year round. The service runs roughly late October through late April, at a base of about three flights a week, increasing toward daily around the December and early January holiday peak. Block time when it is operating is around fourteen hours.
Air Canada confirmed in late 2025 that it was cancelling the planned summer 2026 extension of the route, shifting that capacity through its Toronto hub instead. Air India does not serve Montreal at all. So the honest description of this market is an excellent nonstop for about half the year and a good one-stop for the rest of it.
What we book in the off season
Two routings do the job. Toronto, where both Air India and Air Canada fly nonstop to Delhi daily, adds three to six hours over a Montreal nonstop for a total around eighteen to twenty one. A European gateway Montreal already serves nonstop, Paris on Air France or London on British Airways, lands around nineteen to twenty three hours.
Both are ordinary, well trodden itineraries. What matters is how they are built. We put the Toronto leg on the same ticket as the international flight, and we choose a layover with enough margin that one late departure does not cost you a day.

Checked baggage here is tiered sharply by fare. Basic includes no free checked bag. Standard and Flex include one at 23kg. Latitude, Comfort and Premium Economy include two. If you route through Toronto on Air India instead, Economy Value carries one bag and Classic or Flex carry two.
Seasons and fares
Summer, Diwali and the December holidays are the priciest windows for Canada to India travel generally, and summer is exactly when the Montreal nonstop is not flying, so summer travellers are connecting regardless. February, March, August and September run softer.
