Dallas is a case where the airport does most of the work for us. DFW has its own nonstops to Doha and to Dubai, which means the long portion of the trip happens in one flight from your home airport, and what follows is a four to four and a half hour leg into Delhi. About as clean as this corridor gets without a nonstop, and it is why Qatar through Doha is our usual first quote.
We correct the nonstop question on most calls. Air India had approval for DFW to Delhi in late 2024 and cancelled it in September 2025 during its retrofit programme, so the announcements people remember are not a schedule.
The thing we spend real time on is the Delhi arrival, because the total runs twenty one to twenty four hours and people underestimate what that means at the other end. With an onward domestic flight, we would rather build it onto the same ticket with a generous connection than have you sprint after a day of travel. If someone is collecting you, check what time you actually land before you promise anything.
Which connection
There is no nonstop and none is scheduled. Despite older coverage, this is a connecting route, and we would not advise anyone to wait for a change.
Dallas is well placed for it. Qatar flies DFW to Doha nonstop, roughly fourteen and a half hours, with a Doha to Delhi leg of about four and a half. Flying time alone on that routing is about eighteen and three quarter hours, and with a normal layover the total lands around twenty one to twenty four. Emirates flies DFW to Dubai nonstop as well, and Etihad serves the corridor through Abu Dhabi.
Book Doha unless the fare says otherwise. The other option worth pricing is a domestic connection through Chicago or Newark for a Delhi nonstop, which we build only as a single ticket, so a delayed domestic leg is the airline’s problem rather than a lost international fare. For most Dallas travelers the Gulf routing is the simpler day.
Baggage
With Gulf carriers doing most of the flying, the allowance is decided by fare tier rather than by which airline you prefer.

When to book
Peak is Diwali in October or November, the December and New Year holidays, and June through August. Late January through March is soft, and September through early November is soft outside the run up to Diwali.
On a route where everything connects, booking early buys a better connection as much as a better fare. The itineraries with a sensible layover go first, and what is left in December is either a sprint or a nine hour wait. A date range helps us more than a single date.
The approved route that was cancelled
In late 2024, Air India held regulatory approval for a Dallas Fort Worth to Delhi nonstop. In September 2025 the airline cancelled those plans, citing its aircraft retrofit programme, which was keeping long haul jets out of service. There is no nonstop on this pairing today and none scheduled.
Not an isolated decision. Around the same period Air India suspended Washington Dulles, paused Chicago, and never launched the Boston route it had announced. A pattern of retreat from newer North American flying rather than a one off change, which is why we do not tell Dallas customers to wait and see.
What survives online is the announcement. Coverage of the approval is still findable and still shapes what people expect. Planning for the far end
A twenty one to twenty four hour journey does not end when you land. It ends when you get where you are going, and that is where trips out of Dallas most often come apart.
If you have an onward flight inside India, we want it on the same ticket where the airline allows it. Bags are checked through, the international allowance normally carries onto the domestic segment, and if your arrival is late the airline rebooks you. On a separate ticket you clear immigration, collect bags, check in again as a new passenger, and can be charged domestic excess on bags you already paid to check in Dallas.
If someone is meeting you, check the actual arrival time before you promise anything. Many Gulf connections land in the small hours, and a two in the morning pickup is a real ask.
