Calgary to Amritsar is a two-connection route, honestly told. No airline flies nonstop into Amritsar from outside India, and Calgary has no year-round one-stop to Delhi, so the trip runs Calgary to Toronto or Vancouver, then Delhi, then Amritsar. Farearc books it on one ticket wherever possible. Message us on WhatsApp, call 1-833-330-0574 toll free, or ask for a callback, and a person prices it. From our desk

Calgary to Amritsar is the longest trip we sell out of Canada, and the one where honesty at the enquiry stage matters most. We book it all year. Two connections, twenty four to thirty hours door to door. Telling someone that up front is not losing the sale, it is the reason they call back.

The temptation is to route through Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Do not. Emirates and Etihad do not fly to Amritsar at all, so that build adds a leg and buys nothing, and the irony is that Etihad’s Abu Dhabi run is the longest nonstop out of Calgary. It is the flight that looks most like an answer and is not one. Qatar Airways does serve Amritsar, but it does not fly to Calgary, so Doha saves you nothing either.

Where we make a real difference is the ticket. Build the whole thing on Air India where the fare allows and the baggage allowance runs the entire way, including the domestic Amritsar leg. We also build the layovers long on purpose. On a thirty hour trip with two connections, the difference between a tight schedule and a comfortable one is whether the plan survives one delay.

One thing we have heard but have not verified: a Baisakhi bump in April out of Calgary specifically. Punjab wedding season and Diwali we can see in the bookings. That one we cannot, so we do not price around it.

Which connection

This route takes two connections, and we would rather say so now than let you find out at the quote.

There is no nonstop into Amritsar from anywhere outside India. Amritsar’s international carriers are Air India, Air India Express and Qatar Airways, serving Delhi, Mumbai, Dubai, Sharjah, Doha, Birmingham and London Gatwick. Emirates and Etihad do not serve the airport at all. A Doha routing does not rescue it either, because Qatar Airways does not fly to Calgary. And with no year-round nonstop or one-stop to Delhi of its own, Calgary has no single connection that reaches Amritsar.

The itinerary that works is a domestic hop from Calgary to Toronto or Vancouver, then the nonstop to Delhi, then the short domestic leg north. Twenty four to thirty hours or more door to door, depending on the layovers. In winter, when Air Canada’s Calgary to London to Delhi service is running, that can replace the first two legs and shorten the sequence, though you still connect again at Delhi.

One thing about the Delhi connection

Air India’s Easy Connect service at Amritsar, live since 28 July 2026, applies in the outbound direction only. Flying out of Amritsar through Delhi, you clear immigration and check your bags through at Amritsar itself, which takes a real step out of a long trip home. Travelling the other way, into Amritsar via Delhi, the standard Delhi transit and baggage recheck still applies. Air India has said the inbound version is coming. We will not tell you it is working until it is.

Baggage

Air India is the carrier to build this on wherever the fare allows, because a single Air India ticket carries the international allowance all the way through to the Amritsar leg: one checked bag at 23kg on Economy Value, two at 23kg on Classic and Flex, plus an 8kg cabin bag.

Air Canada, if it operates the Calgary to Delhi portion: none on Basic, one bag at 23kg on Standard and Flex, two on Latitude and Comfort. If your international leg is on Air Canada and the Amritsar hop is a separate domestic booking, you will likely reclaim and recheck before it, under a smaller domestic allowance.

When to book

Punjab wedding season through the winter adds pressure to the Delhi to Amritsar leg specifically, on top of Diwali and the December holidays. Because this itinerary carries two connections, the piece that runs out first is rarely the long-haul. It is a domestic Amritsar seat that lines up with the flight you have already got.

February, March, August and September are the cheaper months on the corridor. If your travel is tied to a wedding, book as soon as you have the date: the workable combinations run out fast once any one leg fills.

Why Calgary to Amritsar takes two connections

Three facts stack up here and together they settle the route. No airline flies nonstop into Amritsar from outside India. Amritsar’s international carriers are Air India, Air India Express and Qatar Airways, reaching Delhi, Mumbai, Dubai, Sharjah, Doha, Birmingham and London Gatwick. And Calgary itself has no year-round nonstop or one-stop to Delhi.

So the honest itinerary is Calgary to Toronto or Vancouver, then the nonstop to Delhi, then the short domestic leg north to Amritsar. Door to door, twenty four to thirty hours or more, mostly depending on how the two layovers fall.

The routings that work, and the ones that do not

The routing people ask for most is through Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and it does not work. Emirates and Etihad do not serve Amritsar at all. Book either of them expecting to land in Amritsar and you will find yourself connecting again, usually back through Delhi.

That leaves Delhi, which is fine, because Delhi to Amritsar is a short, frequent sector that Air India operates itself many times a day. The only real question is how you reach Delhi from Calgary, and that answer changes with the season.

Booking it as one ticket

On a trip with two connections, the ticket structure matters more than the fare. We build on Air India wherever the fare allows, because a single Air India ticket keeps the international allowance all the way through to the Amritsar leg. Split the booking and the domestic flight applies its own smaller allowance, and you are repacking at Delhi with gifts and wedding clothes spread across the floor.

If elderly parents are travelling, tell us at the enquiry rather than after booking. We file assistance requests with the airline when the ticket is issued, at least 48 hours ahead, and we plan around them: longer layovers, and one carrier where possible so a single airline owns each handover. Message us on WhatsApp, call 1-833-330-0574 toll free from Canada or the US, or ask for a callback. We answer 24/7, whatever your time zone.

Questions people actually ask

How long does it take to get from Calgary to Amritsar?

Twenty four to thirty hours or more door to door, with two connections. There is no nonstop into Amritsar from outside India, and Calgary has no year-round one-stop to Delhi either, so the trip runs Calgary to Toronto or Vancouver, then Delhi, then Amritsar.

Can I fly through Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

You can fly through them, but not to Amritsar. Emirates and Etihad do not serve Amritsar at all. Routing through Dubai or Abu Dhabi on those carriers means another connection afterwards, usually back through Delhi, so you have added a leg for nothing. Qatar Airways does serve Amritsar but does not fly to Calgary. Delhi is the connection that works.

Is it worth waiting for the winter London flight?

It can be, if your dates are flexible. From roughly late October to late March, Air Canada's Calgary to London to Delhi service replaces the first two legs with one flight number, which makes the trip simpler even though you still connect again at Delhi. Outside that window it is not flying at all.

Will my bags follow me all the way to Amritsar?

On a single Air India ticket, yes, and the international two-bag allowance carries onto the domestic Amritsar leg. If the Calgary to Delhi portion is on Air Canada and the Amritsar hop is booked separately, you will likely reclaim and recheck in Delhi under a smaller domestic allowance.

Can you arrange assistance for elderly parents on a trip this long?

Yes, and we would plan the itinerary around it rather than adding it afterwards. We file the wheelchair or assistance request with the airline when the ticket is issued, at least 48 hours ahead, and confirm it back to you. On a two-connection trip we choose longer layovers and, where possible, a single carrier, so one airline is responsible for the handover at every stop.
