United

Two United nonstops reach India: Newark to Delhi and Chicago to Delhi, both flown by the 787-9. Farearc books United on consolidator fares from the US and Canada to India, in Economy, Economy Plus, Premium Plus and Polaris business. United's India route baggage rules are tighter than its other long-haul markets. Message us on WhatsApp, or call 1-833-330-0574.

What we can do on this carrier

United is the carrier we reach for when someone needs a nonstop that will still be there. We hold consolidator inventory in Economy and, depending on route and season, in the premium cabins. Newark to Delhi and Chicago to Delhi both kept running through stretches when other carriers suspended their own, and that is worth paying for on a wedding date fixed six months out.

After ticketing we can add baggage, request seats including Economy Plus where the fare permits, file assistance, and reissue a date change inside the fare rules. What we cannot do is book you into Basic Economy and quietly repair its restrictions afterwards, which is why we ask about bags before we quote. During a disruption United owns the rebooking, and its self service actually works, so on United we will usually tell you to work the app while we work the ticket.

Cabins and baggage

The long-haul cabins are Economy, Economy Plus, which is extra legroom rather than a separate cabin, Premium Plus, a real premium economy, and Polaris business. Both India nonstops are 787-9s.

Basic Economy to India does not include a free checked bag. The bag is paid each way, seat selection is restricted and changes are restricted. It is a real saving if you are flying with cabin baggage only. On a trip to India, almost nobody is.

Above Basic Economy, United’s India fares have carried a smaller free allowance than its other international markets, where two free bags have been the norm. On India routes that has been one free bag with a paid second. It traces to an India specific fee change, so we read the allowance printed on the fare before we ticket rather than assuming. Standard limits are 23kg per bag and 62 linear inches.

Cabin baggage is one bag plus a personal item on standard fares. International Basic Economy allows a carry-on where United’s domestic Basic Economy does not, and that is the kind of rule that moves.

Assistance and special services

File assistance at least forty eight hours before departure and specify the level. WCHR covers a passenger who needs help with airport distances but manages steps. WCHS covers someone who cannot manage steps. WCHC covers someone who needs taking to the seat. At Newark and O’Hare the distances inside the terminal are long enough that the code is the difference between being met at the kerb and being met at the gate after you have already walked it.

United is a US carrier, so the Air Carrier Access Act applies squarely. Assistance from the terminal entrance through security to the seat, and back off the aircraft on arrival, at no charge, including across connections. A passenger who is not independently mobile must not be left unattended for more than thirty minutes. Passengers needing extra time may board before other passengers.

When any of that fails, the fix is a person, not a form. Every airline serving the US must make a Complaints Resolution Official available at no cost, in person or by phone, and asking for the CRO by name at the airport resolves things the same day that a complaint filed afterwards will not. United also signed an accessibility agreement with the Department of Transportation in 2023 covering wheelchair handling standards, which is a useful reference point if you need to escalate past the gate.

Travelling with your own battery powered wheelchair, register the battery type in advance and arrive an hour before the normal cutoff. Self identify at check-in on the day regardless of what is on the booking.

Two nonstops that stay put

Through 2025 and 2026, while several Air India North American services were suspended or cut back, United’s Newark and Chicago flights to Delhi kept operating. Booking a fixed date months ahead, that steadiness is the argument for United on those two city pairs, and it is close to the only argument that matters.

The second thing United has is options when a day falls apart. Its rebooking tools are among the better ones in the market, and its domestic network gives it more ways to get you home from a misconnection than a foreign carrier serving one US city has.

Where it stops being useful

Network shape. No San Francisco to Delhi nonstop, no Mumbai, nothing else in India direct, so any Indian city that is not Delhi becomes a connection on somebody else’s aircraft.

And the bags. People who fly United to Europe or Asia several times a year assume the allowance travels with them to India. It does not, and they are the ones we most often catch before they reach a counter.

The cabins, plainly

Economy is the base. Economy Plus is extra legroom in the same cabin, not a separate product. Premium Plus is a real premium economy with a wider seat and its own service. Polaris is business, lie flat, direct aisle access on the 787-9. Over fifteen hours the step our customers notice most is Economy to Premium Plus.

Booking it

Send dates, passenger names exactly as printed in the passports, and your real bag count, because on United that last number decides which fare we price. Phone 1-833-330-0574 for the US and Canada, 24/7, whatever your time zone.

Questions people actually ask

Does United charge for a checked bag to India?

On Basic Economy, yes, and it is paid each way. On standard Economy fares United's India routes have included one free bag with a paid second, less than the two its other long-haul markets have carried. We read the allowance attached to your fare before ticketing rather than working from United's rules elsewhere.

Which nonstops does United fly to India?

Newark to Delhi and Chicago to Delhi, both on the 787-9. Both held through periods when other carriers suspended their own nonstops on the same city pairs. United does not fly San Francisco to Delhi nonstop and does not serve Mumbai, so Mumbai from a United hub is a connection on somebody else's aircraft.

Is Basic Economy ever worth it to India?

Only if you have no checked bag, which on this corridor is rare. Between the paid bag each way, no seat selection and restrictive changes, standard Economy is usually the cheaper trip once you count what you actually need. We price both side by side rather than defaulting you into the lower headline number.

How do I request a wheelchair on United?

Tell us at booking and we file it at least forty eight hours ahead with the code matching the help needed. As a US carrier United is bound by the Air Carrier Access Act, so assistance is free and runs from the terminal entrance to your seat, connections included. If it goes wrong, ask for the Complaints Resolution Official by name.

Manage a booking

Your booking lives in the airline's own system, so the United manage-booking page is the place to check it. If you booked with us and something needs changing, message us and we will handle it rather than leaving you to a form.
