What we can do on this carrier

One hub, one carrier’s aircraft, one ticket, one baggage system. That is the reason we book Emirates, and we hold consolidator inventory in the Economy fare families and, on many routes, in Business. When a connection slips at Dubai there is nobody to argue with about whose problem it is.

After ticketing we can add checked baggage, request seats, file special meals, file assistance for both ends and the Dubai transfer, and reissue a date change where the fare permits. We cannot loosen the cabin baggage rules that apply on flights boarding in India. Consolidator fares change harder than what Emirates sells directly, and refunds route back through the ticketing chain rather than being settled at a counter.

Cabins and baggage

Economy, Business and First on most long-haul aircraft, with Premium Economy on part of the fleet. Which cabins your aircraft actually has depends on the route and the date, so we check rather than assume.

Baggage is where Emirates confuses people, because it runs two systems. On any journey with one end in the Americas, which covers every US and Canada to India booking through Dubai, the piece concept applies across the whole ticketed journey. Economy Special carries one piece at 23kg. Economy Saver, Flex and Flex Plus carry two pieces at 23kg each. No single bag may exceed 32kg and dimensions run to 150cm.

Fares sold in India use weight instead of pieces. A relative buying the return leg in India is reading a different table from the one you bought against.

Cabin baggage in Economy is one bag at 7kg plus a personal item. Passengers boarding in India are reported to be held to a single cabin piece under local security rules, which matches how Indian airports operate. Plan the return on one cabin bag.

Assistance and special services

Forty eight hours before departure is the filing window, and the code matters as much as the timing. WCHR for airport distances, WCHS for someone who cannot manage steps, WCHC for someone who has to be taken to the seat. On an Emirates itinerary the request must name the Dubai transfer explicitly. A request filed for the two ends of the trip does not cross the hub on its own.

Dubai wheelchair assistance is handled by the ground handler dnata rather than by Emirates directly. In normal conditions that works. The reported guidance is to flag short connections, under about ninety minutes, at booking or check-in so the handling team knows the transfer is tight. We build longer layovers at Dubai for anyone travelling with assistance, and the reason is specific: the failure mode here is not that nobody comes, it is that somebody comes after your onward flight has closed. A passenger who cannot walk to a gate cannot self rescue from that, and the next Dubai to Delhi departure with a seat may be the following day.

Because Emirates flies to and from the US, the Air Carrier Access Act covers those flights: free assistance from the terminal entrance through to the seat, across connections included, and a Complaints Resolution Official you can ask for by name when it fails. Use that at the airport. It works, and a form filed later does not. Self identify at check-in even when the request is on the booking. Travelling with your own battery powered wheelchair, register the battery type in advance and arrive an hour before the normal cutoff.
