Air India

Air India is India's flag carrier and the only airline flying its own aircraft nonstop between North America and India. Farearc books it on consolidator fares from the US and Canada to India, in Economy, Premium Economy where the aircraft has it, and Business. Which nonstops are running changes by season, so we quote against the live schedule. Message us on WhatsApp, or call 1-833-330-0574.

What we can do on this carrier

We hold consolidator inventory on Air India in the Economy fare families and, on many routes, in Premium Economy and Business. That buys a lower price in the same cabin. It costs flexibility: change fees stack on top of any fare difference, refunds route back through the ticketing chain instead of being settled at an airline counter, and names cannot be changed once a ticket is issued.

After ticketing we can add or upgrade checked baggage, request seats, file special meals, file assistance on every segment, and reissue a date change where the fare allows one. We cannot override Air India during a disruption. Its desk controls the rebooking, and our work is getting you into the right queue early and staying on it with you.

Cabins and baggage

Cabins follow the aircraft. Economy and Business on most long-haul North American services, with Premium Economy on the retrofitted and newer jets, including the 787-9s now flying Toronto.

Checked baggage from the US and Canada uses the piece concept and follows the fare family rather than the cabin. Economy Value carries one bag at 23kg. Classic and Flex carry two at 23kg each. Business and First carry two at 32kg each. Nothing over 32kg goes as checked baggage on any Air India route. Heavier than that travels as cargo.

Cabin baggage in Economy and Premium Economy is one bag, somewhere between 7 and 8 kilos depending on which table you read, plus a personal item. Indian security rules allow a single hand baggage piece on flights boarding in India, so a second cabin bag nobody objected to on the outbound can be refused on the way home.

The one that catches families is domestic. Air India’s India domestic allowances are smaller than its international ones, so a Delhi to Amritsar segment ticketed separately gets assessed against the smaller figure. On one ticket the international allowance carries through.

Assistance and special services

File wheelchair or mobility assistance at least forty eight hours before departure. Inside that window Air India still takes the request, and it becomes best effort rather than something staff have been rostered for. The code decides what turns up. WCHR is for a passenger who manages stairs and short distances but not long airport walks. WCHS is for someone who cannot manage steps but moves around the cabin unaided. WCHC is for someone who needs taking all the way to the seat. Coding a WCHC passenger as WCHR is the most common reason the help that arrives is not the help that was needed.

Two things are specific to Air India. If the itinerary carries a domestic Indian connection at Delhi, the request has to cover that leg too, and the Delhi terminal change is where the handoff slips: international staff sign off at the gate, domestic staff have no record of anyone, and the passenger sits. We file every segment and read the confirmation back to you. Second, Easy Connect at Amritsar, launched in July 2026, works outbound only. Leaving Amritsar through Delhi you clear immigration and check bags through at Amritsar itself. Flying in via Delhi is still standard transit and a baggage recheck, and inbound is the direction that matters when you are planning around an eighty year old.

On flights touching the US the Air Carrier Access Act binds Air India exactly as it binds a US carrier: assistance from the terminal entrance through security to the seat, free, across connections included. When it fails, ask for the Complaints Resolution Official by name at the airport. Every carrier serving the US has to make one available at no cost, and that fixes a problem the same day where a complaint form does not. Self identify at check-in even though the request is on the booking.

The schedule is the first thing we check

Across 2025 and 2026 Air India suspended and restored North American nonstops, cut frequencies on others, and cancelled routes it had already been approved to fly, citing fuel costs, airspace closures and an aircraft retrofit programme. Washington Dulles has stayed suspended with no restart date. Announced services at Boston and Dallas never launched. None of that makes Air India a bad booking. It means a published route map is not a promise, and we price your dates against the live schedule instead.

One ticket, all the way past Delhi

This is the thing Air India does that nobody else on the corridor does. If your trip ends somewhere beyond Delhi, Air India can carry you and your bags the whole distance on one ticket, which keeps the international baggage allowance alive on the domestic leg and keeps one airline answerable when something slips. On Toronto the aircraft are now 787-9s, with Premium Economy on the route for the first time and the Vienna technical stop dropped in August 2026.

When a disruption hits, the operating carrier controls the rebooking and Air India’s queues run slow in peak periods. If a domestic Indian connection sits on the booking, that leg needs rebooking too. It is the part most often forgotten.

What to send us

Dates, passenger names exactly as printed in the passports, your bag count, and whether anyone needs assistance. WhatsApp is fastest. The phone line is 1-833-330-0574 for the US and Canada and we answer 24/7, whatever your time zone.

Questions people actually ask

Does Air India fly nonstop to India from my city?

It depends on the city and the month. Air India has suspended and restored a number of its North American nonstops in the last two years, at New York, Newark, Chicago, Washington and San Francisco among others. We publish none of them as permanent facts. Send us your city and dates and we will tell you what is bookable.

How many bags do I get on Air India to India?

It follows the fare family, not the cabin. Economy Value carries one checked bag at 23kg. Classic and Flex carry two at 23kg each. Business and First carry two at 32kg. No single bag over 32kg is accepted at all. Tell us your bag count first so the fare we price covers it.

Will my baggage allowance carry through to a domestic flight in India?

On one ticket, yes. On separate tickets, no. Air India's domestic fares carry smaller allowances than its international ones, so a separately issued Delhi to Amritsar segment gets measured against the smaller figure and the excess is charged at Delhi. Ask us how the ticket is being built before you plan the third suitcase.

What is Easy Connect at Amritsar?

An Air India service launched in July 2026. Flying out of Amritsar through Delhi, you clear immigration and check bags through at Amritsar itself, which removes the Delhi terminal transfer. As of our last check it runs outbound only. Arriving via Delhi still means standard transit and a baggage recheck.

Manage a booking

Your booking lives in the airline's own system, so the Air India manage-booking page is the place to check it. If you booked with us and something needs changing, message us and we will handle it rather than leaving you to a form.
